A time for exploration

The end of last year saw me complete a decade working as a Pop artist. Yet, through my own inner journey, I came to realise that Pop art only satisfied one half of my creative desires – the half that seeks order. The chaotic half was being ignored completely. This year I have been taking steps to rectify the problem. To begin with, order, in the form of Pop art, has been put to the side. Whether or not this is for good is uncertain.

Instead, I've been moving into the realms of chaos. Splashing paint, collage, plaster and dirt; these have all become common elements. However in order not to give my work over completely to chaos, I have brought in ordered elements of design, primarily various uses of typography. A secondary, and as-yet not fully explored direction, involves the selective removal of rectangles of canvas.

It should be clear that this is a time for exploration, as I seek to find my personal lagrangian point between order and chaos. Over the coming months, I will be continuing to wander these long-forgotten paths. To see more of the path I walk, keep an eye on my blog.
